San Francisco police released dramatic video of an attempted robbery and attempted murder at a SoMa gas station and police are still searching for the suspects.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco police released dramatic video of an attempted robbery and attempted murder.

Investigators are hoping someone will recognize the gunmen. Police say the gunmen opened fire on a gas station clerk as he ran away.

On May 19 at Harrison and Eight streets, two men armed with semi-automatic guns briefly case the store at the Shell gas station.

When they realized the clerk was alone they "point the gun at the clerk and tell him to open the safe. Without any hesitation, the clerk quickly ran out the front door," said San Francisco police officer Carlos Manfredi.

His nightmare doesn't end there.

"One of the gunmen actually starts taking four shots at the victim," Manfredi added.

The clerk was not hit. Customers called the incident scary.

"To go to that length, of not only robbing the store, but trying to take the life of the person working here who's just a regular Joe, probably trying to support a family," said customer Jarrell Brown.

The gunmen got away in a light colored sedan. There might have been a third person in the car.

"I know that this is a kind of a sketchy area up around here, but I mean, I wouldn't expect it would happen around here," said customer Kaitlyn Mitchell.

Police say it could happen again.

"They were unsuccessful in this attempted robbery and attempted homicide, which mean there's a greater likelihood that they're going to strike again and they're going to hit someone else, somewhere else," Mandredi said.

Police want are asking for the public's help in finding these suspects.
