Social media played a big part in keeping people updated on the 6-alarm fire that burned an apartment complex under construction on Wednesday morning in Emeryville.

EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- Social media played a big part in keeping people updated on the massive 6-alarm fire that burned an apartment complex under construction on Wednesday morning in Emeryville.

The Alameda County Fire Department took to Twitter every step of the firefight.

Social media gave us the play-by-play as crews increased water pressure then later, as the morning got busier, they tackled a smaller fire in Union City that tied up resources.

Probably the most in-depth behind-the-scenes look came from the drone they launched to detect hot spots.

Sky7 captured the drone in action. It went up just as the fire spread to nearby townhomes.

Just before 8 a.m., the fire department tweeted that the fire was finally contained.
