Suspect booked into Santa Rita Jail following alleged attack on CHP

DUBLIN, Calif. (KGO) -- Jose L. Huitron was booked into the Santa Rita Jail Monday night and charged with multiple counts of assault on peace officers and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Huitron, 27, from Fresno, is also being held for violations of his parole.

On Sunday June 18, the east bound lanes of the Bay Bridge just west of the toll plaza were shut down due to an accident.

Huitron, who was driving a red Cadillac sedan drove down the right shoulder approaching the collision scene.

He was ordered to stop, but continued on and drove at CHP officer J. Mendoza Jr.

Officer Mendoza, fearing for his safety as well as the lives of others, fired at the approaching vehicle.

Huitron was hit and his vehicle came to a stop.

CHP officers immediately rendered medical aid until relieved by on scene medical personnel who transported him to Highland Hospital.

CHP Officer Mendoza Jr. is currently on routine leave pursuant to CHP policy.
