Swim portion of Escape from Alcatraz triathlon cancelled

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The swim portion of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is canceled due to strong winds.

Race officials "made the call" after consulting with officials from the San Francisco Fire Department Marine Division.

The race has been modified to an 18-mile bike ride and an eight-mile run throughout the city.

That means the race will begin at Marina Green this year.
