Teammates honor slain Discovery Bay boy at game
Family and friends dedicated a baseball game to a boy who was fatally stabbed inside his Discovery Bay home last Sunday.

DISCOVERY BAY, Calif. (KGO) -- Jordon Almgren's, 9, teammates remembered him as the smallest player on the field with the biggest heart during their first game back on Saturday.

William Schultz, 18, is accused of fatally stabbing Almgren inside his Discovery Bay home last Sunday.

Family and friends celebrated Almgren's life at the game and each said a few words. "We used to chew gum and blow bubbles together," one boy said.

"He was everywhere at the same time, I felt he was just a blur," one man said.

And always ready to smile. "He went like yeah, he did like a happy face" one boy said.

That's how Almgren's teammates and former coaches remembered the little leaguer.

On Saturday, Almgren's team took the field for the first time since his death.

Before the game, Almgren's siblings made a brief appearance and his dad said a few words. "We're just celebrating the joy of Jordy," Almgren's father said.

"Today over 300 people came to support the team, support the league and just to support the baseball community," Brentwood Pony League President Paul Slay said.

Almgren's presence could be felt everywhere. From the chalk number two behind home plate, to the sticker on every helmet, to his jersey pinned to the dugout fence.

"We've all been blessed by Jordy. He will always be in our dugout and always be in our lineup," one man said.

In the end, Almgren's teammates pulled ahead winning 12-4. The Giants showed they respected the Angels, especially the one looking down from above. "I bet he's looking down on all of us right now with a great big smile from ear to ear," one boy said.

The Angels headed to the Stockton Port's game Saturday afternoon where Almgren's dad was expected to throw out the first pitch.

The family has created a website JoyforJordy.com, featuring a photo showing his baseball teammates honoring him with jerseys that all bearing Jordy's number 2.
