LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- A dozen Oakland dogs at risk of being euthanized are now safe in Washington state and Canada.
Volunteer pilots with Wings of Rescue flew the dogs out of Livermore Airport Wednesday morning.

Four rescue groups will foster the dogs until permanent homes can be found.
Some of the dogs that were airlifted are dachshunds but most are Chihuahuas.
In Oakland, about 75 percent of the dogs in shelters are Chihuahuas.
