Authorities shut down Salinas gas station Airbnb
The owner of a Salinas gas station can no longer offer his business as an Airbnb.

SALINAS, Calif. (KGO) -- The owner of a Salinas gas station can no longer offer his business as an Airbnb.

Pete Shen thought it would be a great idea to advertise his gas station as a place to stay for the night. It cost $50.

You needed to bring your own mattress, but you got all the soft drinks you could drink.

Code enforcement heard of Shen's plan and shut it down, dashing a childhood dream.

"The childhood dream right?" he said. "I think it's cool. I'm sure everyone has a childhood dream, one of them, either doing something funny, doing something of interest, everybody."

Shen says about 800 people viewed his Airbnb page, two people called about it, and one actually made a reservation to stay. But, alas, never showed up.
