BEYOND THE HEADLINES
AIRS: Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 10:00AM
Guest Host: ABC7's Lyanne Melendez
We have a special roundtable edition in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs September 15 to October 15.
It celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
ABC7's Lyanne Melendez is here with local leaders, to talk about some of the current issues in our Bay Area's Hispanic communities.
In 2013, the Hispanic population in the United States was 54 million, making Hispanics the nation's largest minority group... with 17 percent of the country's entire population.
California has the highest Hispanic numbers. In 2010, the Bay Area counted 1.68 million Hispanics, or more than 23 percent of our local population.
