OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Less than 6 hours remain in Thursday's East Bay Gives campaign.
In 2016 the 24-hour event raised $1.03 million, 7,272 donors gave back to the community and 502 organizations participated.
More than 200 nonprofit organizations are taking part covering topics like animals, the environment, healthcare, and social justice. They're getting more than a one-day boost.
"We really look at this not only about the donations but an opportunity to build capacity and sustainability in the nonprofits by teaching them how to do online fundraising," said Jeri Boomgaarden of the East Bay Community Foundation.
All donations are tax deductible and the campaign ends midnight Thursday.
