MILL VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- There is a lot of gratitude for Bay Area rocker Sammy Hagar for quietly stepping up to help homeless young people in Marin County.
The group Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity told ABC7 News that they would like to thank Hagar, personally, on behalf of the Mill Valley program.
The group helps homeless young people get off the streets and into housing, school, jobs and services.
Hagar made a generous donation, which was matched by fellow rocker Neal Schon of Journey.
He also invited other musicians to join him.
"It touched me right in my heart. It will definitely get the visibility that this project needs," advisory council member Jay Valdes said.
"It's a huge step in getting support from all sorts of different people in the community," council member Bobby Buckter said.
"The fact that they're rallying their musician friends to get behind our work. AHO is 10 years old. This is a dream come true," AHO founder Zara Babitzke said.
AHO has to raise $20,000 in the next few weeks in order to have that money matched by two other donors.
