CARMET, Calif. (KGO) -- Two Bodega Bay fishermen captured a wild scene off the Sonoma County coast this past weekend.

Dane Monell and Kevin Loughman took video of two orcas attacking a gray whale calf off the coast of Carmet on Saturday.

The fishermen say it took place in about 100 feet of water.

They say the calf's mother tried to protect it, but couldn't.

Those fishermen believe a dead whale calf that washed ashore Monday at Salmon Creek Beach in Sonoma County, before washing back out to sea that night may be the same one that was attacked.

The sheriff's office tweeted two photos.
