The Edmonton Oilers are expected to hire former San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan to be the team's new head coach on Tuesday as the deal has been finalized, an NHL source told ESPN.com.
McLellan would replace interim coach Todd Nelson, who finished the season behind the Edmonton bench after Dallas Eakins was fired in December.
McLellan just won the gold medal as Team Canada's head coach at the World Championships in Prague.
After the Sharks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2003, McLellan and the team parted ways in April with one year remaining on his contract. He finished with 311 wins with San Jose, the most by any coach in franchise history.
