A's announce free admission for home game on April 17, 2018

The Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday that their April 17 home game next season will have free admission for all fans.

The 10:05 p.m. ET game against the White Soxcomes on the 50th anniversary of the Athletics playing their first game at Oakland Coliseum.

The Athletics say it's thought to be one of the first completely free standalone games in major league history.

Oakland plans to provide more details on the game early in 2018.

MLB as a whole unveiled its 2018 schedule Tuesday, with a full slate of games scheduled to take place on Opening Day on March 29 -- the earliest starting date in the sport's history, excluding international openers. Oakland will host the Angels on that day, with first pitch there set for 4:05 p.m. ET.
