GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre will play one last football game in Wisconsin.
No, he's not coming out of retirement.
And no, it will not be at Lambeau Field.
The day after the legendary former quarterback is inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame this summer, he will take part in an all-star flag football game.
It will take place at Camp Randall Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Badgers, after the Packers turned down the opportunity to host the game.
Event organizer Marty Garafalo of Gameday Entertainment said more details, including other players who will participate, will be announced later this month. The game is scheduled for July 19.
Lambeau Field rarely hosts non-NFL events. Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean will headline a concert there on June 20 (Chesney also did a show there on June 11, 2011). Wisconsin and Ohio State also played a college hockey game at Lambeau in February 2006.
In the past, the Packers have said their window for summer events is mid-May to mid-June, but Lambeau Field will host a Wisconsin-LSU football game in early September 2016.
"Our main goal for Lambeau Field's playing surface is to have it in the best condition possible for the start of the season," Packers director of public affairs Aaron Popkey said. "The June 20 Chesney-Aldean concert will add some challenges to that goal, so we need to prevent any further wear and tear on the field prior to August. We unfortunately had to pass on the event, but we look forward to Brett's return to Lambeau Field for his Hall of Fame induction and number retirement, July 18, and wish him the best for a successful charity event, July 19."
Favre will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame the previous evening at Lambeau Field. Favre's No. 4 also will be officially retired on July 18, but it won't be placed on the Lambeau Field faade until the Thanksgiving night game against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 26. While the actual Hall of Fame banquet is sold out, tickets go on sale Tuesday for seating in the stadium bowl to view the event live on the scoreboard video screens. Favre also will appear in the stadium to speak to those in attendance.
Garafalo and Gameday Entertainment ran the "Legends of Candlestick" game last summer in which Joe Montana and several of his former San Francisco 49ers teammates took on an all-star team led by Dan Marino in a flag football game. The game was one of the last events at old Candlestick Park, where the 49ers played until opening Levi's Stadium last season.
The plan is for Favre to team with several of his former teammates and play against an all-star team comprising former NFL opponents.
