MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs acquired right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infielder/outfielder Chris Coghlan, the teams announced on Thursday.
Brooks, 25, has appeared in 15 big league games, making 10 starts. He was acquired by Oakland as part of a trade last season that sent Ben Zobrist to the Kansas City Royals. Brooks is 3-5 with a 8.38 ERA in 58 big league innings.
Coghlan, 30, hit .250 with a career high 16 home runs last season but lost playing time to Kyle Schwarber in left field and then Jorge Soler in right. The Cubs then signed Zobrist to play second base limiting his chances in the infield as well.
