Giants activate pitcher Jean Machi from 15-day DL

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants activated right-hander Jean Machi from the disabled list and recalled him from Triple-A Sacramento before Tuesday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

Machi, who missed 17 games with a left groin strain, is 1-0 with a 5.47 ERA in 24 games with the Giants this year.

Right-hander Mike Broadway was optioned to the RiverCats to make room for Machi. Broadway appeared in four games, allowing one run on three hits over 4 innings.

In related news, outfielder Nori Aoki was scratched from the starting lineup with a fracture in his leg.

Justin Maxwell took his place in the lineup and Gregor Blanco moved into the leadoff spot.
