San Francisco Giants' Angel Pagan accepts new left field role for team

ARIZONA (KGO) -- The San Francisco Giants held their Spring Training in Arizona Tuesday and one of the most obvious changes comes in center field, with Denard Span taking over. The question is, how is that going over with Angel Pagan?

Nobody wants to change positions at this point in their career or at this level, but Pagan played a lot of left field back in 2010 and he's willing to take one for the team.

However, he said he wanted to talk to Denard. "We still have to have a word, I told him this morning we have to sit down and talk about this because I mean in order for us to work well as a team we have to have great chemistry and I don't want anything to be between us. I don't have any hard feelings at all," Pagan said.

"We haven't done that yet, but we said that to each other that we're going to do that to make sure we're on the same page. I think that we already are, but we just want to go ahead and iron some stuff out and I think we'll be fine," Span said.

Pagan has played left field and he has no problems with the change. "If the team asked me to move to left field, I'll do it 100 percent. I'm here to do whatever the team wants me to do. I'm going to go out there and give it 100 percent like I always do. You know Denard is a very good center fielder that I respect a lot and I think he's going to do a great job for us," Pagan said.

The switch may keep Pagan off the disabled list with less ground to cover and he has no problem with Span batting lead off.

Giants Manager Bruce Bochy isn't worried about these two professional making a switch. "We just think it's the best way to go and Angel is so athletic, I think he can do a great job in left field. You know to have two center fielders out there that's a nice luxury," he said.

Pagan is the epitome of this team, which is unselfish and when you don't care who gets the credit, that's what wins championships.
