Giants hire Jose Alguacil, Phil Nevin as base coaches for 2017

San Francisco Giants baserunners will have two new faces instructing them around the diamondnext season.

The Giants announced on Monday that they have named Jose Alguacil as their first-base coach and Phil Nevin as their third-base coach for 2017. They will replaceBill Hayes and Roberto Kelly, respectively.

Alguacil managed the Sacramento River Cats, San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate, in 2016. The former infielder originally joined the organization as a coach in 2007 after playing six seasons in the Giants' farm system from 1993 to 1998.

Nevin was also a minor league manager before joining San Francisco. He guided the Arizona Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate in Reno for the past three seasons and also spent three seasons as skipper of the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A team in Toledo. Prior to his coaching career, Nevin played 12 seasons in the big leagues, earning an All-Star selection with the San Diego Padres in 2001.

Current Giants skipper Bruce Bochy was Nevin's manager in San Diego for six seasons.
