Veteran right-hander Jake Peavy was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday by the San Francisco Giantsdue to a back strain.
Peavy, who had two forgettable starts to begin the season, couldn't make it out of the fourth inning in his Friday start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tightness in his lower back forced him to depart with two outs in the fourth and a 4-0 deficit.
The 33-year-old former Cy Young Award winner joined the Giants midseason in 2014 and contributed to a surprise World Series run.
To fill Peavy's spot on the 25-man roster, the Giants recalled catcher Andrew Susac from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Saturday's 4-1 win over Arizona.
