Giants pitchcer Tim Lincecum turns to father for pitching help

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KGO) -- Seeing to regain the form that made him a two-time Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum had to admit something to himself this off season -- father knows best.

Lincecum says he is working on rebuilding his confidence again. He said, "Obviously that came from years and years of being able to repeat my mechanics. And I'm just trying to get back to that. [My dad] was a big part in that... and the time he was able to give to me was pertinent to what I'm going to be able to do this year."

When asked how it was working out with his father teaching him instead of Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti, Lincecum said, "No problem. I think Dave understands and it's just kind of been the understanding since I came here. My mechanics were just a little bit unorthodox, compared to a lot of people. So they haven't been one to change me in any kind of big fashion, so I had to take it upon myself to go do something about it and why not with somebody that is more familiar with me than myself?"

Giants coach Bruce Bochy said Lincecum would be back in the starting lineup. In response Lincecum said, "It's always good to know that, but at the same time I want to feel like I'm going to earn that spot too. And that's just kind of what I've been doing on this offseason; to not make that such a factor... is my will. I just want to do my best to earn that spot and prove that I can handle that responsibility."
