The Minnesota Twins fired general manager Terry Ryan on Monday, ending his second stint with the team.
The Twins announced that assistant GM Rob Antony will replace Ryan on an interim basis.
"The decision to part ways with Terry was difficult, painful and not obvious," Twins owner and CEO Jim Pohlad said in a statement. "We are extremely grateful and very thankful to Terry, his wife Karilyn and their family for being a part of the Minnesota Twins."
The Twins enter Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers with the worst record in the American League at 33-58. Minnesota is headed toward its fourth last-place finish in the last six years and has not reached the postseason since 2010, the year before Ryan returned as the Twins' GM.
