Mercer guard Jibri Bryan, 23, fatally shot in Macon, Georgia

Mercer senior guard Jibri Bryan was shot and killed on Tuesday afternoon.

The Telegraph reported that the shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a downtown Macon, Georgia, convenience store. Bryan, 23, was shot in the head and found in the driver's seat of a late-model Chevy Monte Carlo, according to the newspaper.

A sixth-year senior from Savannah, Georgia, Bryan started all 35 games last season and averaged 7.8 points per game. He had played only six games this season because of a knee injury.

"Tonight the Mercer community is grieving the tragic death of graduate student Jibri Bryan, who has been part of the University family for six years," Mercer president William D. Underwood said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bryan family."

Mercer coach Bob Hoffman said: "Jibri Bryan was a special young man who was a great contributor to our team and did everything that was asked of him. He was important to us in every way. I loved him and cared about him from the very first time he was on our campus. We grew to be very close over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his special family."
