Michael Richardson apologizes

Texas A&M Aggies student assistant coach Michael Richardson issued an apology for his actions on the sideline Monday in which he struck two West Virginia players in the first half of the Aggies' 45-37 win over the Mountaineers in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Cameras showed Richardson striking West Virginia players who ventured out of bounds during the first half on two separate occasions. He used his elbow to strike Mountaineers cornerback Daryl Worley in the back of the head and shoved running back Andrew Buie in another incident.

Richardson took to Twitter to express remorse for his behavior.

Richardson was ordered by Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin to remain in the locker room for the second half of the Liberty Bowl after Sumlin was made aware of Richardson's actions. The junior was sent home early and Sumlin said after the game that he didn't condone the actions and that, "We'll deal with that when we get back," to College Station, Texas.

A class of 2012 signee out of DeSoto (Texas) High, Richardson played linebacker as a true freshman for Texas A&M before suffering a career-ending neck injury in a Nov. 17, 2012 win over Sam Houston State. He had surgery shortly thereafter and has served as a student assistant coach for the Aggies since his playing days concluded.

On Monday night Worley tweeted that he would "see [Richardson] again in life," but on Tuesday had softened his stance and spoke of both him and Richardson needing to take the high road.
