CINCINNATI -- The Reds bullpen set a major league record by giving up a run in 21 consecutive games.

Kelby Tomlinson's RBI infield single off Caleb Cotham put the Giants up 2-1 in the eighth inning Tuesday and marked the 21st straight game in which the Reds' bullpen allowed at least one run. The Reds had been tied with the 2013 Colorado Rockies for what was the major league record since 1900. Cincinnati is 10-17 after Tuesday's 3-1 loss.

"It's a challenge for the guys in the bullpen," manager Bryan Price said. "It's been a challenge to get on a roll."

The Reds' bullpen is by far the worst in the majors. It came into Tuesday's game with a 6.54 ERA and had allowed 69 runs in 95 innings with 54 walks, all the most in the majors. Reds relievers have allowed 22 homers in 27 games, also the most in the majors. The team also has a major league low one save on the season.

Although the Reds' mark is the record for consecutive games overall, the 2004 Cleveland Indians hold the record for consecutive bullpen appearances with at least one run allowed, with 30. The Indians' record accounts for a team not needing to use its bullpen in consecutive games.
