Notre Dame CB Devin Butler faces battery of police, resisting charges

Notre Dameseniorcornerback Devin Butlerwas arrested early Saturday morning on preliminary charges of battery to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement, the St. Joseph County booking desk confirmed.



The South Bend police said Butler was arrested at 1631 South Bend Ave., which is the address of the Linebacker Lounge, a popular bar right off Notre Dame's campus. Butler was still being held in the St. Joseph County Jail early Saturday morning.



The Observer, Notre Dame's student newspaper, first reported the charges.



Butler, a senior from Washington D.C., was expected to miss at least the first month of the season after suffering a broken left foot in the summer, this after breaking the same foot prior to the Fiesta Bowl toward the end of last season.



The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Butler has appeared in 37 games in his first three seasons with the Irish, starting in three, and has tallied 39 total tackles, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.
