OAKLAND, Calif. -- Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow and is expected to be fully healed by Opening Day.

The team said the procedure was performed by Dr. Jon Dickinson at Presidio Surgical Center in San Francisco on Friday morning. Vogt had dead tissue removed from the elbow joint as well as a bone chip.

Vogt said during FanFest last Sunday that he was healthy and ready to go for the season. The elbow had not been restricting him or keeping him from doing his offseason program.

General manager David Forst said the elbow had been bothering Vogt on and off for a couple of weeks, so Vogt underwent an MRI exam that showed the bone chip.

"We decided we could get it out and not impact the season, so Stephen said we should go ahead with it," Forst said.

A first-time All-Star last season, Vogt hit. 261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs in 136 games.
