Ray McDonald case forces SJPD to reevaluate rules

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Jose Police Department is looking to tighten rules regarding officers' off-duty work, stemming from ABC7 News' revelation about the Ray McDonald case.

ABC7 News was the first to report last week that McDonald called an off-duty police officer around the same time a 911 call was made during an incident back in August.

That officer, who worked part-time as security at Niners games, arrived first before others responding to the call.

McDonald was arrested on suspicious of abusing his pregnant fiance.

Police officials admit the officer's presence was one reason why it took a month to forward the case to the district attorney's office.
