Seahawks agree to extension with GM John Schneider

The Seattle Seahawks and general manager John Schneider have reached agreement on a contract extension, the team announced Sunday night via a tweet from owner Paul Allen.

The new deal is for five years and is expected to make Schneider among the highest-paid GMs in the NFL, a source tells ESPN's John Clayton.

Schneider's contract was set to expire at the end of 2016, his sixth season at the helm of the Seahawks after a stint in the Packers front office.

The deal for Schneider, 45, is expected to approach the $3.75 million a year that, sources say, the Ravens' Ozzie Newsome earns as the highest-paid general manager in the league.

Head coach Pete Carroll's contract also expires at the end of the 2016 season. But sources say Schneider's extension is likely to lead to one for Carroll as well.

The two teamed to lead the Seahawks to the franchise's first Super Bowl title after the 2013 season.
