Sean Doolittle could be out 'couple of weeks' more with new injury

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Two days after making his first appearance of the season, Oakland Athletics closer Sean Doolittle was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder.

"It's another muscle, almost under the armpit, that he strained,'' A's manager Bob Melvin said before Saturday's game with the New York Yankees. "It will be a couple of weeks of inactivity before he picks up a baseball.''

The A's recalled right-hander Angel Castro from Triple-A Nashville.

Doolittle, whose move to the DL was retroactive to May 28, opened the season on the disabled list after missing spring training with a strained left rotator cuff.

"It's really frustrating to work so hard for four months, come all the way back, get back and, you know, I'm here and I'm ready to help and I throw one inning and I'm back on the shelf,'' Doolittle said. "It's really frustrating.''

Doolittle began his rehab assignment on May 14 and was reinstated from the DL on Tuesday. He appeared in one game with the A's, tossing a scoreless sixth inning and allowing one hit while striking out two.

"I came out of Wednesday's outing and I felt good while I was throwing, I felt good after I was throwing and then that night the shoulder, it was pretty painful in a slightly different area than before,'' Doolittle said. We tried to let it calm down on Thursday and then came in yesterday and when I went out to throw it wasn't right, it was too painful.''

Castro is making his second stint with the A's. He did not allow a run in three of his four relief appearances with Oakland, but allowed six hits in three innings.
