A Bay Area sports reporter who covered the Golden State Warriors has resigned from his TV station, weeks after he was caught on tape taking a security staffer's jacket from a team practice.

Mike Shumann, a sports anchor at KGO-TV for more than 24 years, said in a statement Monday that he and the station were amicably parting ways.

"I regret any embarrassment I have caused the station," Shumann's statement said. "My recent actions do not reflect the high standard of conduct expected at KGO. Nor do they represent the integrity with which I have conducted my professional sports and broadcast careers."

Shumann was visible on a security tape, which was reviewed by ESPN, appearing to take a jacket belonging to Ralph Walker, Golden State's director of team security, as Shumann walked out of a Warriors practice in April at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The Athletic reported that several Warriors players were upset over the incident and didn't want it quickly dismissed.

Shumann, a former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was sent home from San Antonio and never appeared on air for KGO again.
