Stolen supplies didn't slow Annual SF Turkey Trot race

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Hundreds of runners braced the cold Thursday morning to participate in the annual San Francisco Turkey Trot.

Hundreds of runners started their holiday by taking part in the race at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park.

"It's a nice way to start the day," said Sean Owen, who ran in the race.

"We come out and we run so then we can eat whatever we want the rest of the day," said Sue Courey, who also ran in the race.

The race went off without a hitch, even though organizers had to do without supplies this year because on Wednesday morning, someone stole a U-Haul truck that contained 200,000 T-shirts, snacks and drinks.

The race benefits the track and field programs at Washington and Lowell High Schools.

"One thing I remember most about this race wasn't the swag or the booth. It was the Lowell kids hanging around giving you the time help you out and greet you and show you the right path," said Grant Paul, one of the runners.

That's something to be thankful for.
