Warriors make $50K donation to support victims of Oakland fire

The Golden State Warriors announced they will donate $50,000 to help families who were affected by a deadly fire in Oakland, California, on Friday night.

At least nine people were killed in the fire, which occurred during an electronic music party in a warehouse in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood. Several others were injured or have been reported missing.

The Warriors will make the donation to the Unity Council, a nonprofit organization in Fruitvale. The team also had a moment of silence before Saturday's game against the Phoenix Suns at Oracle Arena.

"When a tragedy of this magnitude hits this close to home, we feel it's imperative to do our small part to help our community and those impacted," Warriors president Rick Welts said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and friends during this incredibly difficult time."

The Raiders and Athletics have also pledged to match donations from fans up to $30,000.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr began Saturday's pregame news conference by offering his condolences to those affected by the fire.
