SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There's a warning about holiday traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge for this Easter weekend.
The Golden Gate Bridge District is recommending leaving cars at home and taking public transportation.
Holiday weekends usually bring more visitors than normal weekends. Parking lots at Vista Point in Marin and the Visitor Pavilion in San Francisco usually fill to capacity early.
The Vista Point parking lot may be closed completely for hours at a time if the traffic backups are substantial.
Traffic then turns into major chokepoints for Highway 101 as drivers queue up, waiting for a parking spot to open.
The Golden Gate Bridge District is warning visitors to avoid these parking lots through a series of message signs, beginning miles away from the parking lots.
The District is also reaching out to the tourist community to alert visitors to the frustrations drivers will face when trying to use the very limited parking on either end of the Bridge.
For alternate parking and transportation options, visit the Golden Gate Bridge District website.
