Heavy traffic expected due to Transbay Tube closure, concert

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Allow yourself plenty of time to get in and out of San Francisco this weekend - it's going to be a rough few days.

The three-day BART Transbay Tube closure is underway and will last until Tuesday at 4 a.m. and a construction project has closed the intersection of 4th and King streets in the city, right next to AT&T Park.

Monday to Friday commuters aren't giving much thought to the Transbay Tube closure but some people have to work this holiday weekend.

"I'm still thinking about it, I'm thinking I'll probably work from home. But I have to go to the office, probably I will get an Uber," San Pablo resident Azaad Azmi said.

Vincent Talley's employer helped organize carpools. "They emailed everybody and told them specifically who they could ride with and who was coming from where. They're really interactive like that," he said.

Driving might not be the best option. Traffic is expected to be heavy on the San Mateo, Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.

"You don't have to avoid BART altogether. If you're going to the A's game and staying within the East Bay, you're going to see more frequent train service and if you have to go into the city to work or an appointment or concert, you can rely on our bus bridge," BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said.

Billy Joel has a concert on Saturday night at AT&T Park and the Ballpark Ferry is already sold out.

Just down the Embarcadero, the intersection at 4th and King is closed for Central Subway work.

"Usually when there's a game and a concert, it's so hard to walk in here, let alone the cars and traffic. It's really hard to walk in," San Francisco resident Bike Kefeli said.

"I'm hoping it won't be too bad but it will probably cause some issues but maybe with less people in the city, it won't be as bad," Dublin resident Tynette Scott said.

That's a decent bet for Sunday and Monday, but 50,000 Billy Joel fans will certainly impact your Saturday.
