OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Caltrans officials are warning that ominous new cracks have been found on bolts on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, officials say tiny cracks on some rods pose a potential threat to 400 plus remaining fasteners that secure the tower to the foundation in an earthquake. Officials also say one of the bridge's tower anchor rods snapped after it was exposed to water and became brittle. An oversight panel is expected to suggest further testing on the rods.
