Solar plane on around-the-world journey flies over Golden Gate
The pioneering around-the-world flight being flown by an airplane that runs solely on the sun's rays has arrived at the Golden Gate.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KGO) -- Aviation history is about to be made.

The Solar Impulse 2, the solar-powered airplane that's just completed a flight from Hawaii has arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area and did a fly-by pass around the Golden Gate.

The plane is fueled entirely by solar power.

Bertrand Piccard, a Swiss explorer, is one of two pilots on a mission to circumnavigate the world in the plane.

The plane is scheduled to land at Moffett Field in Mountain View at midnight.

It took off from Hawaii on Thursday carrying two pilots on board. Its cruising speed is 28 miles per hour.
