UNION CITY, Calif. -- Firefighters responded to a residential care facility in Union City after a tree crashed into the building Friday morning.

Alameda County Fire Department Battalion Chief Stephanie Radecke said firefighters responded at 4:20 a.m. to the facility on Trefry Court after a large eucalyptus crashed into the building and into two bedrooms at the back of the facility.

She said two residents were transported to the hospital for observation, but there were no other reported injuries. The other residents were transported to another care facility.

The building sustained substantial damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

Radecke said there are other large eucalyptus trees behind the facility that need to be evaluated to ensure the area is safe.
