SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) -- The winter storm is dropping some much needed rain on the Bay Area and much desired snow in the Sierra.
Skiers and snowboarders are taking full advantage of the latest snowfall at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe with more snowfall expected in the coming days.
"In the last 24 hours we've received four to eight inches of snow here at Heavenly Mountain Resort and we're very excited. This new snow helps us open more terrain. We opened two new trails today and with the snow forecasted for Sunday into Monday also. We may be opening more terrain next week also," said Sally Gunter with Heavenly Mountain Resort.
The area could get up to 18 inches of snow by Tuesday, which would be plenty of powder for those wanting to ski and snowboard during the President's Day holiday next weekend.
