MENLO PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- The rain has stopped in most parts of the Bay Area, but not before doing a lot of damage. Trees have fallen across the region because of the storms. It's especially bad in Menlo Park, a massive oak tree crashed into several buildings.

"I woke up thinking there had been an earthquake and I saw the wall shaking and I heard a rumble then a crack," said resident Mayra Alejandro.

It was the sound of a giant oak tree falling onto a home and a four unit building.

It also destroyed a gazebo, furniture, and bikes.

Part of the tree landed inches from the tenant who lives in apartment number four.

"He was on the couch and the branch went through the window and, I mean, he would have been hit if he was any closer," Alejandro said.

Luckily no one was hurt, but renters in 2 of the 10 units won't be coming home this weekend.

Utility workers tried restoring services to everyone Saturday night, but couldn't.

The tree's collapse is blamed on the rain, but some residents who were allowed to return home worry it's still not safe.

"How about this building, ground is soft," said resident Hong Jun. "So this building may sink or lean."

"Some of the tenants saw it coming, they just didn't know when," Alejandro said.

Meantime in Woodside, a family was shocked when a tree crashed into the side of their home.

"There was a massive tree right behind our house where the roots were in a creek that fell and blew through the fence behind our house," said homeowner Julie Levinson.

Also in San Mateo County, the heavy rain caused a mudslide on State Route 84 east between La Honda Road and Skyline Blvd. It caused major traffic delays, and crews spent hours clearing the road.
