Air quality officials say they have received several inquiries from the public. They say "low-cost sensors" are picking up smoke impacts in Marin County and San Francisco.

In a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, BAAQMD says a "temperature inversion is also trapping pollutants from sources like wood burning and vehicle pollution near the ground."

The San Rafael Fire Department is urging people to not call 911 to report smoke coming from the China Camp Start Park area.

Fire officials say firefighters will continue their wildfire prevention work on Friday in the Big Rock Ridge area in northern Marin County.

They say the prescribed burn is expected to release smoke and will likely be seen near Novato and northern San Rafael areas.

These kinds of burns help prevent high-intensity wildfires and improve forest health by reducing dead and down vegetation, according to fire officials.
