The announcement by CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky came only hours after an advisory panel unanimously decided Pfizer's shots should be opened to the 28 million youngsters in that age group.

Millions of shots made by Pfizer and its partner BioNTech have already been shipped to states, doctors' offices and pharmacies, to be ready for CDC's decision.

ABC7 News reached out to several Bay Area counties to see when they would start administering the vaccine to children and here's what we found out:
Alameda County
Alameda County officials say county vaccine clinics have not started yet but there are sites within the county that are vaccinating kids 5 to 11 and they can be found here.
Contra Costa County
Contra Costa County officials say starting Tuesday, Nov. 9, they will be sending mobile vaccine clinics to schools across the county. Those school sites include campuses in the Antioch Unified School District, Brentwood Union School District, John Swett Unified School District, Knightsen Elementary School District, Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Pittsburg Unified School District and West Contra Costa Unified School District.
A list of school-based vaccine clinics open to the general public will be listed on the county's website.
Marin County
County officials say appointments are now full for kids ages 5 to 11 but they are expecting more vaccines in the coming days and will be opening up more locations when they receive that shipment. You can make an appointment on the county's health and human services website.
Napa County
Napa County officials will be hosting two vaccine clinics in the next few weeks for children ages 5 to 11. The first of which will take place Friday, Nov. 12 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Calistoga High School. Then on Friday, Nov. 19 another vaccine clinic will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Napa High School.

San Francisco County
San Francisco officials say there are now several sites across the city, including four school-based sites, that are now offering the vaccine to children ages 5 to 11.

San Mateo County
San Mateo County health officials say the child-focused walk-up vaccination clinic at the San Mateo County Event Center will be operating on Nov. 10, 11, 12, and 13.
Health officials say appointments are required and can me made on MyTurn.
Santa Clara County
Santa Clara County officials there are several clinics and drop-in sites throughout the county now offering the vaccine to children ages 5 to 11.

Solano County
Solano County officials say the county-operated site will start vaccinating children ages 5 to 11 on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Solano County Fairgrounds. You can register your child ahead of time through the county's website but officials say walk-ins are also welcome.
Sonoma County
Sonoma County officials say school vaccine clinics begin Nov. 9 and vaccines at those sites are intended for students who attend those schools and their families.

- Guerneville Elementary School in Guerneville, Nov. 9, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Jefferson Elementary School in Cloverdale, Nov. 9, 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Harmony Elementary School in Occidental, Nov. 10, 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- McDowell Elementary School in Petaluma, Nov. 10, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Roseland Elementary School in Santa Rosa, Nov. 12, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Healdsburg Elementary School - Fitch Mountain in Healdsburg, Nov. 12, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Dunbar Elementary School in Sonoma, Nov. 12, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- James Monroe Elementary School in Santa Rosa, Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Cali Calmecac Language Academy in Windsor, Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
