One of the officers was pinned under the vehicle until emergency crews were able to remove him. All three were taken to a hospital, but the theft suspect, whose name has not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries there, police said.
The two officers are expected to survive their injuries. The drive of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.
Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association union, said in a statement that the officers both suffered leg injuries in the collision.
"The SFPOA is grateful for the bravery, quick thinking, and selfless actions displayed by these officers under extremely dangerous circumstances. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts as they heal," Wong said
