Body found after man believed to have drowned in Russian River, sheriff's office says

UKIAH, Calif. (KGO) -- The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit announced on Sunday a body was found in the Russian River after a man is believed to have drowned on Saturday.

Deputies responded to the reported drowning about 5:35 p.m. at the Hacienda Bridge, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page.

The man was seen using a rope swing to jump into the water.



When he didn't surface, crews started a search and rescue response, but their efforts shifted into a recovery operation Saturday evening.

The victim has not been identified.

This comes after an Oakland teen and San Francisco man drowned in two separate incidents in the Russian River on July 13.
