SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- A student stabbed another student during a fight Friday afternoon at Elsie Allen High School in Santa Rosa, police said.

Santa Rosa police spokesperson Sgt. Patricia Seffens said a 14-year-old boy stabbed a 13-year-old boy, who was taken to a hospital in stable condition as of 2:15 p.m. with "minor" stab wounds.

"It's nerve wracking. It seems stressful." said Sarah Paulekas, a parent. "Luckily my daughter wasn't in school today, but you worry about safety with the knives."

Police received the call at about 12:30 p.m. and arrested the older boy. They believe the incident is gang related. The 14-year-old was taken into custody at the scene along with another student involved in the fight. They are working to identify a fourth student involved.

The 13-year-old was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening stab wound in his back.

The stabbing comes just weeks after the Santa Rosa City Schools District committed to making student safety a top priority this school year. It's been struggling in past years with gang violence, and fighting on campuses, even seeing a stabbing death.

"I just hope they can figure out what the problem is and get things under control," said Paulekas.
