There was free ice cream at Humphrey Slocombe, free slices of cake at Dandelion Chocolate and free ferry rides across the bay.
The San Francisco Ferry Building opened on this day back in 1898. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic and resilient buildings in the city.
"When you think of many of the challenges that the city has faced, in fact the 1906 earthquake, the 1989 earthquake, the two global pandemics, this building continues to stand strong," said Mayor London Breed.
The City of San Francisco has seen some dramatic ups and downs because of the changing tech landscape. But the Ferry Building is a symbol.

For the 125-year-old landmark that started off as a transit hub, the ferry building represents the city's ability to reinvent itself and to remain resilient.
"Even over the last three years, it's been a beacon for so many San Franciscans. I think that's what this day is all about. Thank you, Ferry Building. Thank you for being so consistent - being at the heart of the building and providing a place for all San Francisco residents to gather, celebrate, feel nourished and feel really proud about what the Bay Area represents," said Jane Conners, the General Manager of SF Ferry Building.
