2026 FIFA World Cup: Bay Area picked as one of 16 host cities

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- The World Cup is coming to the Bay.

The Bay Area was selected as one of 16 host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Levi's Stadium will be the venue used for the games.



The biggest international soccer competition is going to be staged across Canada, Mexico and the United States.



Bay Area leaders have been pushing to be hosts since FIFA awarded the World Cup to the North American countries in 2018.

"The Bay Area has a proud tradition of hosting world-class soccer," San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo tweeted after the news. "We are thrilled to join the @49ers in welcoming the world to California at the 2026 World Cup!"
