CA Supreme Court hearing arguments in case challenging Prop 66

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The California Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case challenging Proposition 66. That's the death penalty initiative approved by voters last fall.

If the court upholds the initiative, that would open the door to resume executions for the first time since 2006.

One of the most hotly-contested requirements of Prop 66 is requiring the court to decide all death penalty appeals within five years of sentencing.

Right now, appeals can take up to 25 years.
