ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGO) -- It's a party like none other at Disneyland. The Diamond Celebration is now underway, celebrating 60 years of Disney magic.
Walt Disney first opened the gates in Anaheim in July 1955 and to celebrate, the park is open for 24 hours Friday.
ABC7 News reporter Leyla Gulen reported live from Disneyland on the ABC7 morning news as the celebration got underway.
Thousands of people flooded Disneyland for the 60th Diamond Celebration. They camped out for hours overnight to be part of this dazzling experience.
Disney's President Bob Iger reflected on Walt Disney's vision 60 years ago. "There were plenty of naysayers who thought his ideas were too ambitious and virtually impossible to build. Yet here we are 60 years later celebrating the triumph of imagination in a place where dreams really do come true," he said.
Parkgoers are being treated to eye-popping entertainment, a new fireworks show, an electrifying parade with state-of-the-art technology and more.
People come to Disneyland to be transported to another place and time. They also come for the nostalgia.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC7.
