SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Thousands of homeowners can get a chance to access to money to make their homes safer in the event of an earthquake.

The state program called Brace and Bolt gives qualified homeowners a chance at up to $3,000 to retrofit their homes. Starting on Wednesday, it's now available in many more Bay Area cities.

The list includes Daly City, Colma, El Cerrito, Hayward, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Lorenzo and San Mateo.

Eligibility is determined by zip code and by how your home is constructed. When Registration is closed participating homeowners will be selected through a random drawing. Homeowners will be notified via email if they have been selected or if they are on the wait list. Selected homeowners will receive detailed information and next steps for participation in EBB.

It's complicated - click here for more details and to apply. The deadline to apply is February 27.
