HAYWARD, Calif. -- A man was killed in a fire at a mobile home near Hayward this morning, an Alameda County fire spokeswoman said.

A report of a fire at a singlewide mobile home in the 20600 block of Fuchsia Court came in shortly after 3 a.m., fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

Firefighters arrived to find the approximately 50-foot by 10-foot home heavily involved in fire and forced entry inside, Knowles said.

A victim was found within about 10 feet of the home's front door. He was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

The blaze was knocked down about 20 minutes later and contained to the mobile home, according to Knowles.

Knowles said investigators are working to confirm the age and identity of the victim, but that neighbors have indicated he was the sole occupant of the trailer.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, which destroyed the mobile home, Knowles said. No one else was injured and no neighboring properties were affected.
